Classical: East and West
What does the word “classical” mean when applied to music? Is it only the works of Bach, Beethoven, and Brahms as many of us have come to believe in the West? The meaning of classical is shaped by culture and history. It is often defined as “relating to the most highly developed stage of a civilization.” Music if often considered one of humanity’s most unique and subtle forms of expression. East-West presents “Classical” to explore classical music forms East and West allowing our listeners to examine with us what is both unique and beautiful across musical cultures as well as when those musical cultures work in combination.
